At first glance, it may seem that all power towers are similar.

You get almost all the same functions.

In that case, why should you pay for one over the other?

This is why this guide is created - so that you get EVERYTHING you want from your power tower and you do not need to wonder if you are missing anything.

You will not be because we will be covering the different parts that your power tower should have and that you should be paying for.

No one wants to purchase a power tower only to realize that, for example, your power tower does not have multiple grips on the pullup bar.

That would suck.

And that is just one example.

So, let us go in-depth on how to select the best power tower for you, your gym and your clients.

Stamina | X Fortress Power Tower

The Stamina X Fortress Power Tower literally has it all.

It is easy to build and really packs a punch in your pullup and dip routines.

It also has extra accessories in case you want to do a little bit more.

It is 57” long by 48.5” wide along with 85” in height.

It is made of solid steel so you can be assured that this machine will not be bent or broken easily.

It has 3 pullup variations - first, you have the standard and wide grips.

Of course, the wide-grip bar has a bit of padding on it, making it a little bit thicker.

It has a neutral grip handle bar.

It also has a climbing knob as well, a unique addition for certain athletes.

Moving on to the additional accessories, it has a plyo-box that can be adjusted.

Box squats and box jumps can be done here.

Decline and incline pushups as well.

Your creativity can run wild!

Another key measurement to address is that the width of the dip bars is around 20.5” as well.

It has abs straps instead of arm rests so you can do your ab workouts here.

This is a key difference from the other power towers.

This machine is also freestanding, which means that it can be an independent machine and have zero risks of toppling over on its own.

The Kit4Fit Compact Power Tower may be one of the most versatile power towers on the market.

There are very few power towers that have this level of detail in its product.

It is also very compact as well, 39 x 30 x 17 inches and weighs about 28lbs in shipping.

Its dip bars are a dream come true - you want your dip bars to be adjustable.

This way, more than one person can use the equipment.

It is made of steel so you know you are getting a quality piece of equipment.

For ab workouts, you get the standard arm rests to do your kicks with.

The only big difference is that this power tower is not freestanding.

And because of that, this power tower needs to be mounted on a wall.

It is highly recommended to mount on in concrete or brick so that it has the stability.

However, other options are also available but it has been my experience that unless you know how to mount equipment that can withstand the pressures of working out, then, you should think about another option.

Fitness Reality Power Tower

The Fitness Reality Power Tower is not any ordinary power tower.

Its 63.4 x 49 x 83 inches footprint may be a bit bulkier than your average power tower but it has an average weight of about 150lbs.

The reason for this small deviation in its footprint is because it has a unique design to hold up more weight, around 400lbs.

It also makes it better at freestanding so you do not need to bolt into the ground if you do not want to.

It has 3 pullup variations, the standard, wide-grip and neutral grip.

This is usually standard for good power towers.

It is made with steel and uses arm rests for your ab workouts.

Again, very standard in power towers.

The only weakness this power tower really shows is that it has a 26” width between its dip bars.

So, for small athletes, this may not be ideal because your shoulder width will be small than the actual width between the dip bars.

So, it seems as though this power tower is more tailored for taller athletes with broad shoulders.

Great for bigger athletes but smaller athletes will definitely need a smaller power tower or a power tower with an adjustable dip bar.

RELIFE REBUILD YOUR LIFE Power Tower

The Relife Rebuild Your Life Power Tower is one of the more budget-friendly power towers.

It is quite compact with an adjustable height, 36 x 27 x 59-89 inches being its footprint and only weighing about 60lbs.

It is made of high quality steel so do not fret about getting less for your money.

However, you only have two pullup variations, standard and wide grip.

For ab workouts, you will be using the standard arm rests.

The dip bar width is not something to look forward to, almost 26” from one dip bar to another.

Better than nothing but we want to make sure our money is being used to meet our body specifications.

It is freestanding so it does not need to be bolted onto the ground.

Overall, this is a solid purchase if you are tight on money. 

However, smaller athletes may want this power tower due to the wide dip bars.

 

With that said, however, the best overall power tower would have to be the Stamina | X Fortress Power Tower based solely on width of the dip bars.

Unless you have a shoulder width of >23”, you will not have a fun time with 25” or 26” width dip bars.

You will really feel the stress of dips in the long term and the angle in which the dip bars puts you in is not pleasant.

Do yourself a favor and get your power tower suited for you.

With bigger athletes, they have the flexibility to choose between either a smaller or average-sized power tower.

Small recap about what to look for in power towers

  • Your height limit
  • Dip width

These are just three criteria of what you need to look out for when purchasing a power tower.

If you weigh < 200lbs, do not worry about weight.

Now, if you are doing weighted dips, weighted pullups or weigh >200lbs, you should be cautious and select a power tower that can handle your strength levels.

Another option that you should focus on is the height limit.

Most power towers are around 83-89” in height on its own, without someone doing pullups.

Add a few more inches for someone’s head and torso and your ceilings should be at least 9’ high.

A bit more too if you want to do muscle ups.

I have discussed the dip width a bit earlier and this is something you should not overlook.

Get something that is around your shoulder width.

I am 5’7” and my shoulder width is around 21”.

So, it is a no brainer for my to get a smaller power tower.

Whereas, if you have very broad shoulders, you can get a wider power tower.

Nothing wrong with the smaller or larger power towers; you just need to make sure that you get something you can do efficient dips with.

 

Of course, let us go into some frequently asked questions about power towers:

What are some power tower workouts?

Usually, you will do a mixture of calisthenic workouts involving pullups, dips, pushups, and abs.

This will involve 3-5 sets of 3-6 exercises, depending on how frequently you want to use your power tower.

However, unless you are getting sore lats from pushups, you are probably strong enough to do barbell training for progress.

If you are serious about strength training progress and want to get stronger, you have read the right article.

If you are still working out on 5 hours of sleep, it will be tough to change your mind.

You will ask the right questions when you are ready.

Do power towers build muscle?

As a beginner, you will build muscle with anything you do! 

Power towers are a great exercise apparatus for you to start building your body.

However, it depends on what your specific goals are.

And you need to be serious about these goals because I do not want you to waste your money.

You deserve to know the proper information to make an informed decision.

With that said, if you are more info bodyweight fitness, getting a power tower will be an excellent choice.

You can build just about every muscle in your upper body and core.

Unfortunately, you will not have enough stress to promote lower body gains but at least you are not getting fatter and out of shape.

Are power towers worth it?

Power towers are worth the exact amount of effort you put in.

This means that if you are lazy and unmotivated in your short and long term goals, nothing you buy will be worth it.

You need to have a plan.

You need to figure out what you want in the gym.

Then, after carefully constructing an exercise program to do, you will make progress.

With that said, you also need to understand how to build strength, a fundamental principle in all fitness programs.

Because without strength, why are you working out?

You can see the results of power tower workouts with people who do street workouts in the park.

These lifters have insane body awareness and bodyweight strength.

Flexibility, strength, endurance…

What I find trending is that many people who purchase power towers are not serious about their initial goals.

So, they would purchase their power towers prior to having a specific goal.

Then, when workouts get a bit tougher, they quit and the power tower starts to collect dust.

These same lifters will also have the audacity to blame their equipment for their lack of success.

Let me let you guys in on a little secret - those people who blame others and do not hold themselves accountable for their actions are the same people who will not be great.

It is advised to stop following them as they are just leeches holding you back.
